Our Trucking School’s Enrollment Steps and Prequisites

Become a student at Lovett’s Trucking Academy with our minimum requirements and easy process.

Admission Requirements

To qualify for a CDL, you must be at least 18 years old. You should also have a valid Texas driver’s license and pass the (DOT) physical exam & drug screen, social security card and high school diploma or GED.

Admission Process

Visit our office so we can guide you through our enrollment process. An interview with our friendly Director Twana Lovett will get you on the road to earning your CDL.

The Process of Obtaining a CDL in Texas

Step 1:

Step 1:

You will need proof of a current 

  1.  US Citizenship or Lawful Presence - Birth Certificate/Passport
  2. Social Security Number - Social Security Card
  3. Identification - Driver’s License
  4. DOT Medical Card 
  5.  Application fee to take the CLP test
Step 2:

Step 2:

Complete the commercial learner's permit (CLP) theoretical exams. These comprise four parts, namely in this order:

  • Special Texas Requirements/Texas Commercial Rules
  • General Knowledge
  • Combination Vehicles (not applicable to Class B)
  • Air Brakes
Step 3:

Step 3:

The pre-trip inspection includes knowing internal inspections, light operations check, and external inspection.

Step 4:

Step 4:

This last phase comprises behind-the-wheel range and road tests. After passing the range tests, you will go on the road with an Examiner who will assess your driving skills. You will be awarded your CDL once you complete and pass all parts of the tests.
